About Salt
MohawkOfNewYork is a Brand built by Bashir "SaltDogg" Henderson, from by East New York Brooklyn. Starting out as an apprentice for Spike Tv's Inkmaster Season 1's Alfliction in 2013, I wanted to earn my way into the tattoo industry the old fashioned way. Whether it meant running errands, cleaning the shop or just hanging out in the shop watching Al and the other Inkmaster’s for long hours at a time with no pay I was all in.
After being left in the shop with Al’s other apprentice Spyder, while he went on the 1st of many convention tours I had to learn fast. I wasn't as excited about actually tattooing in the beginning I was more interested in learning how to run the business end of a shop. But that would soon change and I developed a passion for the art itself. I would sit and watch Al and Spyder tattoo for hours and become the God's Of Brooklyn, in our tattoo world paying my dues and waiting for my chance to shine.
Finally 3 yrs later I find my place as a black and grey, Realism artist with a little bit of an abstract influence. Still with the same passion and hunger during each tattoo as I had when I 1st picked up a tattoo machine. I love the TattLife, it was meant for me all along, fast forward to 2017 with the help of my brother from another Uncle Wasker and my cousin from Queens RBillionz (RIP), I was set to open my 1st shop and set the pace for others to come in the MohawkOfNewYork Tattoo Club franchise. Like the late great Notorious B.I.G said, "It was All a Dream", but keep watching because I'm still dreaming.
